MCHI Press was formally established in
July, 2001. The founder, Rev. Dr. Lori A. Parker,
is an Aikido Instructor with her own private school and an ordained Zen
Buddhist Priest. She is also a certified practitioner of one of the most
exciting and effective methods of mind-body coordination - the Feldenkrais
Method® and a pratitioner of one of the most innovative and effective
trauma resolution modalities - Somatic Experiencing®.
These four disciplines (Aikido, Zen, Feldenkrais and Somatic Experiencing)
are, for Dr. Parker, all means of awakening. That is, they are four
distinct but related paths to self-realization. Central to all four
disciplines is the concept of awareness. Therefore much of the material
published by MCHI Press focuses on the importance of awareness - of
becoming more conscious.
At MCHI Press, the words harmony, unity, integration, healing and wholeness
are viewed as synonymous terms. We are dedicated to publishing materials
which serve to help individuals, from all walks of lives and from all
cultural and religious backgrounds, to integrate themselves and to awaken
to the potential of their true self.
This integration of the self - this healing of the self -- goes beyond
healing the mind-body chasm present in many individuals to include also,
healing the splits within the ego structure itself, healing splits between
the masculine and feminine energies, and healing splits between instinct,
reason, and emotion. This integration of self includes as well, healing the
splits between the ego, soul and spirit.
At MCHI Press, we firmly believe that we cannot expect to produce
harmony within society or among nations, if we do not first look at the
degree of disharmony within our own selves. We cannot expect to produce
harmony within society or among nations if we do not first look at the
degree of disharmony within our own interpersonal relationships.
It is the same fear - the same energy -- that disrupts the natural tendency
toward harmony between lovers, friends, and family members -- that disrupts
the natural tendency toward harmony between man and nature -- between
races, classes, and nations. When one human being seeks control over
another human being, that person engages the same dynamic that people of
one nation do when they fear the people of another nation. That person
engages the same dynamic that people of one race do, when they fear the
people of another race - that the people of one class do when they fear the
people of another class.
One human being exploiting another human being is a symbol of fear. The
extreme exploitation of nature is a symbol of fear. Guns and bombs are
symbols of fear. So at MCHI Press, we look to the disharmony in the
microcosm (the individual self) to better understand the disharmony in the
macrocosm - that is, to better understand the disharmony between societal
members - between members of the international community - between man and
nature itself. This is the basic intention underlying the materials
published by MCHI Press.
