Dr. Lori A. Parker

Dr. Lori Parker has been involved in teaching and spiritual counseling since 1985, and in healing since 1993. She began pursuing her Zen Buddhist studies at the Zen Temple in Long Beach, California in the early 1980's. In June 1992, she was ordained a Zen Buddhist Priest by the late Rev. Dr. Soyu Matsuoka, Soto Sect Division of Zen Buddhism.

She was also simultaneously pursuing her rank in the martial art of Aikido. She received her 1st Degree Black Belt in 1985. In 1990, with the encouragement of her teacher, she founded her own private school, Mumonkan-Do Aikido of California. In 1991, she received her 2nd Degree Black Belt.

Dr. Parker was also pursuing her academic degrees. In 1985, she received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California in 1993, with a 3.9 GPA. Her doctoral dissertation was on the history of civic education in the United States. The dissertation was a historical analysis of how successful we have been in our attempt to educate a diverse population to live harmoniously in a society.

In 1993, Dr. Parker became increasingly interested in the wider meaning of "healing" and she began studying various healing methods. She is now a Guild Certified Practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method®, one of the most exciting and effective methods of mind-body coordination. She is also a certified Practitioner of one of the most innovative and effective trauma resolution modalities - Somatic Experiencing®.
